Music for the Day: Dobie Gray

Michael Blowhard writes:

Dear Blowhards --

Dobie Gray shows loads of ease, soul, and style in this live version of his 1973 hit "Drift Away":

Here's the Dobie Gray website. Take a look at how many artists have made covers of this soft-rock classic! Mentor Williams wrote the song.

Best,

Michael

I remember reading some rock and roll review collection (Rolling Stone, I think) that said Dobie's version was "noticeably inferior" to Rod Stewart's. Now, I'm no fan of Rod S, but he could sing, and he does a sweet job with this sweetly sad song...

But Dobie Gray makes me cry. "Inferior"? Uh, no.
