Dear Blowhards --

The University of YouTube, Continuing-Ed Dept., brings us a dancing lesson from Prof. James Brown:

Good God!

Best,

When is Steve Sailer going to address the apparent differences between blacks and whites in the area of affinity for dance. We cannot ignore these real differences between the races anymore. Asian kids are trying to learn hip-hop dancing and on average will never be able to improve their natural genetic ability.

TJlurker -- It'd be nice if the genetics-differences crowd would leave IQ behind for a few minutes, wouldn't it? Maybe every year they should give themselves an IQ-free week; keep up the genetics-differences yak, but focus on other things. One topic I used to like bringing up a GNXP was this: How to explain the worldwide triumph of African-American music in the 20th century? It's surely one of the two or three biggest cultural stories of the century. I like it because it not only highlights an impressive positive, it also plays havoc with assumptions some naive people make about IQ where culture is concerned (that good artists are good artists because they're supersmart in an IQ sense). People (and families, and population groups) are bundles of variable talents of a whole lot of different sorts, with IQ just one of them. (Where math goes, for instance, I'm certainly on the slow side of that bell curve, yet -- because I've arranged my life so that the only math I have to do is paying the bills -- it doesn't get in my way much.) So why fixate 24/7/365 on IQ?

Yes! To say (as all the evidence says) that blacks on average have IQs significantly lower than whites is NOT to say that blacks are white people with low IQs. The evidence is much less clear by its nature, but it seems very likely that there is a different distribution of a wide range of abilities between whites and blacks (to focus on the one comparison everyone seems to care about the most). Whites are almost certainly on average smarter than blacks...and this is very, very important. You simply cannot understand modern American society without understanding that fact.

But...blacks are almost certainly better at some things than whites. And this too is very, very important. You simply cannot understand modern American society without understanding that fact, too.

Steve had a fantastic discussion a while back on his site about "athleticism" differences between the races. The discussion was at as high a level as I have seen anywhere on any subject. It does have some connections to dance.

It's the liberals who want to crush discussion of IQ differences who think that IQ is the be-all and end-all. Their frenzied attempts to suppress discussion are motivated by the terror of finding out that blacks do have lower IQs...and are therefore inferior to whites. It's no accident that it is whiter people deny IQ differences...and yet are utterly obsessed with it.
