Walter Dean Goldbeck Illustrations

Donald Pittenger writes:

Dear Blowhards --

Nothing profound here. Just a few illustrations circa 1910-20 from an illustrator no one seems to know much about today. His name is Walter Dean Goldbeck, apparent dates 1882-1925. An item about him can be found here (scroll down).

The first two picture don't strike me as being anything special, but the two at the bottom seem nicely done. Enjoy.

Pretty use of color.

In the arts, the age that came crashing to an end with WWI was so great that even small, little-noticed and all-but-forgotten bits of it are wonderful. As we see here. Thanks Donald!

That's some beautiful stuff. Reminds me of visiting great old movie theaters: glam, dreamy, a little absurd (in a good way). The "Shogun's Daughter" piece is especially gorgeous. What a talent!
