George, Terry, Music on Video

Michael Blowhard writes:

Dear Blowhards --

Good to see that the New York Times has begun to make use of the gifted playwright and blogger George Hunka. I liked George's recent theater evening "In Public/In Private" very much, and I interviewed George about the theater life here and here.

BTW, I noticed over at Terry Teachout's blog (where I learned about George's Times gig) that Terry has created a dynamite list of YouTube music-on-video links. Scroll about halfway down the site's right-hand column and be amazed.

Terry's missing a few essentials I think. Frex, if your kid comes and asks you "Mommy, daddy, what's cool?", that means it's time to have The Talk. So you'd say "Son, this is cool right here." And if he asked again "Mama, papa, what's cool?", you'd say "I'm telling you boy, this is cool." And if he said again "What's cool?", you'd whip this out and say "Son, listen to me now, this is cool." And if he still didn't get it you'd say "Son, I'm gonna tall you one more time and I'm not gonna tell you again. This is cool." If he still doesn't get it then disown the little bastard, 'cause he prolly ain't yours anyway.

I only had 10 minutes, so checked out "Red Allen" (fifth from top) then "Parker/Hawkins" (about two-thirds of the way down). I was not disappointed. Amazing, incredible.
