MIA

Michael Blowhard writes:

Dear Blowhards --

Apologies for being missing in action. I'm down and out with my third flu of the season -- a new record for me. I blame my luck on having done the recommended thing, and getting a flu shot. In any case: bad tummy, aches and pains, and a headache that prevents me from looking at the computer screen for more than a minute.

Back as soon as I can arise from my bed of pain.

Best,

Michael

I have often heard of people claiming to get the flu from the flu shot, although I'm sure it's not quite the case but it'd be interesting to know the connection. Hope you feel better soon.

So you had a flu shot? Hmm. The only flu shot I ever had, as best I recall, was when I started Basic Training in the Army at Fort Ord. And, like a fair proportion of the other recruits, I came down with pneumonia a couple weeks later.

Coulda been due to that shot. Mighta been doing those push-ups on the gravelly California coast (with nice view of Monterey's Cannery Row across the bay). I'm inclined to blame the shot rather than the cool, coastal air.

Donald, you got your immune system weakened thru the flu shot and so the cool coastal air that wouldn't affect you otherwise got you pneumonia that time. Blame the shot.

MB, have you ever read Karlsson-on-the-Roof? He had one of the famous phrases, "when I'm sick I need you to be a loving mother to me: wrap my neck with a rough woollen scarf and pay me a 5 Ore because it bites".

I'll pay you a nickel (not sure of the currency conversion), get well soon!

Get well soon...Trixie

Feel better. The same exact thing happened to me. I head about the upcoming flu so I took my first flu shot in years. And I've been sick twice already. Maybe if you don't take a flu shot every year, it can have the reverse effect.

Hope you return soon!

Take it easy and feel better soon. The flu can really knock you out, and I can only imagine what a third flu attack must feel like.

I quit getting the flu the year I quit getting flu shots, and I'm constantly in roomsful of sick children masquerading as commercial actors.

I *am* sick right now with a garden-variety common cold, but it's nothing that a few Sudafed and some DVDs in bed can't kick.

Oh--and I newly swear by the Airborne cocktail.

Of course, all this is barn-door-closing after the horse is gone, but for next time. We like our Blowhards in tip-top blogging condition. Feel better, s'il vous plait!

I'm pretty much of a newcomer to computers, the internet, blogs, all of it, but I've been exposed to enough to see how much soullessness abounds. It's such a pleasure to read your writing, so full of insight, depth, and genuine warmth. Please take good care of yourself. No more flu!

You beat cancer but succumbed to the flu? Wimp.
