In which a group of graying eternal amateurs discuss their passions, interests and obsessions, among them: movies, art, politics, evolutionary biology, taxes, writing, computers, these kids these days, and lousy educations.

More on "The Company"

Dear Friedrich --

Just because I'm a diehard Robert Altman fan, here are a few pieces about his newish film "The Company." (Here's my own posting about the movie.)

* A long Altman q&a with Amy Reiter in Salon, here.

* Joan Acocella's largely-positive review of the film, here.

* Robert Gottlieb's negative review of the film, here. (Links thanks to OGIC, here.)

* And Toni Bentley's negative take on the picture, here.

Best,

Michael

The opening credits are good, I think. But the film is all downhill from there. It'll be better on DVD, when you can fast-forward through all the scenes with Neve Campbell and James Franco. (And Franco wins the Judd Nelson "Phfft!" award for biggest flash in the pan ...)

I listed The Company on my blog as the most disappointing film of last year.
