Women and Stress

Michael Blowhard writes:

Dear Blowhards --

American men are "catching up to women in life expectancy," reports Yahoo. The reason? "Medical experts say women are working harder, smoking more and undergoing more stress, which leads to the No. 1 killer -- heart disease."

Best,

Michael

Based on my observations, the percentage of smokers today seems to be higher among women than among men, at least in the younger age groups.

Somehow, your usual 'Best, Michael' juxtaposed with the substance of the post seems very funny to me. Oh, I'm a strange one allright.

According to the study the differential is only about 4 years (women 82, men 78).
This amazes me, given the number of men who meet violent deaths in their teens and twenties.

"...the number of men who meet violent deaths in their teens and twenties." just must not be as high as people like to make us think, eh?

After watching one old lady after another lie in a nursing home bed comatose for years at the end of her life, I personally am resolved that as soon as my mind begins to skip around too much and drop stitches, I will begin to eat bacon, lie around with no exercize, scarf down chocolate, get angry, and anything else I can think of that's bad for my health. I may go out early, but I'll go happy. (Actually, I won't have to make many changes.)
