Dear Blowhards --

* Whither cameraphones? Poynter Online's Steve Outing learns from some hard-at-work-on-it engineers what will going on the market within a couple of years: 8 megapixel cameraphones that use SD cards and take good-quality video.

* Give teens a place to make their own and what kind of results would you expect? The Boston Globe's Matt Viser reports that MySpace is awash in titillation, semi-truths, and bad behavior.

* Tyler Cowen lists his favorite North Carolina culture-things. Visitors volunteer a lot of suggestions in the commenstfest too. Tyler then risks alienating all North Carolinians by dissing Lexington barbecue.

* Pia Zadora and her hubby Meshulam Riklis have sold the legendary house they were living in -- Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks' Pickfair -- for $20 million. How could I missed this item when it was fresh back in May?

Best,

Michael

Nah, Lexington barbeque isn't real NC barbeque.

If he'd gone east and dissed the barbeque, well, that would be a problem.

Pia Zadora! Now there's a name from the past. Remember when she was being primed to be the next Marilyn Monroe? "Dubinet" commercials, "Butterfly", and that Harold Robbins movie? Wonder how she's lookin' these days?

MySpace is pure trash and it should have been obvious to anyone from day one, what with its horrendous site design. I'm not a big fan of LiveJournal or Friendster or any other number of similar/related sites... But at least most other places learned the value of having subpages so you're not forced to stare a million comments and images in the face on any given user's page.

PTM -- When I finally get around to visiting NC, would you mind passing along your BBQ tips?

Michael -- Remember those g-string bikinis she'd show up in at Cannes? Pia was looking pretty cute in a TV interview I saw with her not too long ago. You'd think that babyface wouldn't age well, but she looked fine. The real surprise was that she was shrewd and funny in the q&a. I guess I'd assumed she'd be a campy dingaling, but she was quite incisive about a lot of things (including herself). And from early footage they had of her, it was clear she was also quite a talent before she turned into a joke. A good singer and dancer, a real stage dynamo. Who knew?

"." -- My own eyes cross when I look at most MySpace pages. But don't young people love tiny type and lotsa clutter? I know their magazines are always crammed full of this and that, and I dimly recall liking tangle-and-crush when I was young too...
