Bird Flu or Not?

Michael Blowhard writes:

Dear Blowhards --

Since we're in the mood to worry about the future: Hey, how about that bird flu, eh? I have nothing to add to the discussion, of course. But it is within my tiny powers to link to GNXP's ScottM, who argues that worries about bird flu are overdone, and to Tyler Cowen, who thinks that we're in for some real challenges.

Best,

Michael

Dr Marc Siegel was just on "Coast to Coast" (WABC Radio) last week talking about this.

It's interesting how whenever a new disease breaks out, everyone breaks out into hysterics and panic. It's human nature to start screaming when you perceive that your life is at stake. I think people *should* worry and take steps to protect their health and it would be more effective if people became more informed about the pros and cons--but alas, most people don't work that way.
