Political Aside

Fenster Moop writes:

Dear Blowhards,

The bin Laden tape has gotten the usual gaggle of TV spinmeisters all twisted around. The job of the spinmeisters in the last days of the campaign is to interpret every interpretable event as advantaging their candidate. The problem is that if they position the bin Laden tape as helping their side, it suggests that bin Laden intended it to benefit their side, and that the bad guys therefore want their side to win. Kerry doesn't want the public to think bin Laden favors him, since that makes him look weak, and feeds the Bush argument. But Bush doesn't want the public to think bin Laden favors him, since it suggests a hardline approach breeds more terrorists, and feeds the Kerry argument. What's a poor meister to do?

Best,

Fenster

Good theory, Fenster.

Only problem is that the Republicans are claiming that OBL helps them: "It's very helpful to the president," contended Bush ally Sen. John McCain

"What's a poor meister to do?"

Keep yakking loudly and aggressively, so that all cogent thought is rendered impossible?

"Hey, what's all the fuss about, so we knocked down a couple of towers. Don't you see? It was payback. You knocked down a couple of our towers in Lebanon; we knocked down a couple of yours in New York. You made bad; we made bad. Now you make good; we make good. 'Kay?.....What? Background noise? What's the?....Damn, I told him..... Achmed, could you PLEASE hold off sharpening the swords while I'm making this video for the infidels? What? Yes, yes, many more necks.....soon."

It's times like this that I really wish the phrase "Who gives a fuck?!" could be used in our political discourse.

(Apologies if the profanity offends)
