Elsewhere, on TV

Fenster Moop writes:

Dear Blowhards,

I find this TV commercial for Las Vegas (the one entitled Silent Car) a real hoot.

Best,

Fenster

I don't get it. What's the joke?

Well, I take it that it's a group of old friends in Vegas, probably for the wedding of the woman in the center. Though they are not going to or from the wedding directly, judging from the way they are all dressed. Something has happened that causes them all to be a little more sober than they'd like to be, out of deference to the main character in front, who is holding back. Then they start giggling, eventually causing the main character to give in and laugh herself. What's happened? Who knows, but this is Vegas and what happens here, stays here, according to the ad campaign. I have some idea.

Innuendo: when you come to Vegas, the normal rules do not apply. Conventional morality is suspended and everyone--including your closest friends--will cut you a break when if you choose to let it all hang out.

I like the ad as a mini-movie: interesting plot, characters and mystery all in 30 seconds. I also find it effective. I often find that after a particularly entertaining ad that I can't remember the product. But maybe it's too cryptic?

It is obvious that they hired a male stripper for the bride to be and that the one girl in the front got carried away and blew him. Why you think this is somehow 'neato' is beyone me.

I think Norman has the dynamics about right, but his plot may be askew. I assumed they were coming from the wedding reception of the woman in the veil. The woman in front, maid-of-honor, had caught the groom at the rehearsal dinner doing something he oughtn't have (perhaps getting what Norman assumed the male stripper got) and busted him. The whole wedding party blew up and now no one knows what's going to happen. It seems as plain as day to me.
