In which a group of graying eternal amateurs discuss their passions, interests and obsessions, among them: movies, art, politics, evolutionary biology, taxes, writing, computers, these kids these days, and lousy educations.

Michael Blowhard writes:

Dear Blowhards --

* WhiskyPrajer lists some of the books that have meant something to him.

* Cowtown Pattie plays the "one book" game too, then explains the real meanings of varieties of cowboy hats. But what is the other name for a "Gus Hat"?

* In his best mystical-comic poet voice, DarkoV shares the very appealing "Philosophy of Fjaka."

* Car-crash enthusiasts who think they can't get enough may finally have met their match: here's a video that's over an hour long, and that consists of nothing but rally-car crashes.

* Time magazine's list of the 50 coolest websites may (or may not) include a few that are new to you. I thought virtual Jackson Pollock was pure genius, as well as a lot of fun.

I oughtta feel guilty about watching the rally crash video, but I don't.

Love the French section the best. 90% of the accidents are just oversteering and nervous hands, but the rest of them seem to steer directly into the wall or culvert or bridge or whatever. It's like they had a Froggie moment and the futility of life and internal combustion overwhelmed them and they just took their hands off the steering wheel with a wry "Eh."

The Finns seemed to be more skilled. They're just going too fast. Way too fast.

Aw, geez, guys, I can't, I really can't.

Come to Cowtown on a Friday night, toss back a few cold ones at Billy Bob's on North Main and some semi-sober cowboy will proudly tell you about his Mule P_ _ _ _ hat.

Sluggo's still out there. Great to see you. Interesting, the way the whole reality-car-crash thing has become its own little genre, isn't it? Creepy? Irresistable? Both and mre?

C. Pattie -- The more you resist saying it the cuter you get!

My enthusiasm and my outpouring of thanks for your kind mention are both strong, but unfortunately fell victim to the strength of my fjaka. Apologies are extended and forgiveness requested.

Now, back to my carefully coiffed insolence.
